Rotary International was established in Chicago, USA in 1905. It's main objective is service -- in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. The Rotary motto is "Service above self." Clubs meet weekly and are open to all cultures, races and creeds. They are non-political and non-religious.
There are now over 1.2 million Rotarians around the world, grouped into some 30,000 clubs.
A current priority for Rotary is polio: Rotary is working closely with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA. Rotary has spent more than $500 million on this program alone, with the hope that polio can be completely eradicated.
