School for deaf children
Hati Sanubari is the new literacy & language program that is serving families who have young deaf children. The program is off to a good start, employing both hearing and deaf Indonesian assistants, with the help of volunteers. Thus far, the school serves children ages 18 months to six years old.
It is truly exciting to see deaf children, with their siblings and parents, coming together and learn sign language. For many of these deaf children, who struggle to understand spoken words and are not able to express themselves vocally, sign language is giving them their first real opportunity to develop basic communication at home. That in itself is a gift that is beyond words!
The school has its own website at www.hatisanubari.com.
Key Benefits: Program helps deaf children to become normal, functioning, productive members of society.
