Rotary Club Jakarta-Menteng Celebrates Achievements of Founding Fathers
19-03-2007 (RCJM)
The RCJM held a commemorative dinner on 9 March to celebrate the achievements of the Club’s honorary and founding members. The event was a resounding success with good participation from present, past and honorary members of our Rotary Club, and many of their spouses. Honorary members, Mr Jusuf Ronodipuro and Mrs Jusuf, Mr Johnny Widjaja and Mr Joe Kamdani, helped us celebrate 27 years of achievement by RC Jakarta-Menteng. Apologies were received from Mr Hendra Hadiprana and the Australian Ambassador. Rotarians and their guests enjoyed a buffet dinner provided by the Borobudur Hotel and some fine karaoke singing at the end of the dinner led by legendary crooners, Rtns Brian and Handoko. Hopefully Handoko’s neighbours are still on speaking terms with him! The strong sense of fellowship evident throughout the night reminded us that our Club’s commitment to the Rotary goal of service remains solid. Pak Handoko deserves a special vote of thanks for allowing us to use his house in Jln Brawijaja and for providing a number of beverage refreshments. Read more ...
Ford-Rotary Menteng Charity Golf Tournament 2006
20-12-2006 (RCJM)
The Club organized the Ford-Rotary Menteng Charity Golf Tournament at the Riverside Golf Course at Cimanggis on Thursday 14 December 2006. Twenty nine players enjoyed the bright sunshine and convivial spirit struck during the tournament to post some competitive scores at one of Jakarta’s most reputable golf links. The event was organized by local Jakarta golf-pro, John Russell, from John Russell Golf. Prizes were awarded to individual players as well as to teams for the flight with the highest aggregate score on the day. Many players used the opportunity to purchase ‘Mulligans’ which gave them a chance to have a second shot on any hole. As major sponsor of the tournament, Ford Motor Company kindly offered a new Focus sedan to the first player to fire a hole-in-one on any par-3 hole on the day. As it turned out, and despite some fine strokes, no-one was able to avail themselves of Ford’s prize! Read more ...

Rotary Club Jakarta Menteng, in conjunction with Steinway Pianos, has the pleasure of presenting the Sungkono twins in their Indonesian debut piano recital on December 7, 2005 in the Grand Ballroom of the Dharmawangsa Hotel. This prestigious charity event is under the patronage of His Excellency Joachim Broudré-Gröger, the German Ambassador to Indonesia.

The Indonesian-born twins Sonja and Shanti Sungkono have devoted their careers to the piano duet. Although recent graduates of the University of the Arts in Berlin, they have played numerous concerts in Europe and North America and were winners of the National Piano Duo Competition in Saarbrucken in 2003. Spanning two centuries, the concert program begins with Mozart in the late 18th century and culminates with Shostakovich in the 20th. The Sungkonos will perform on two concert grand pianos, graciously provided by Steinway Pianos. Read more ...
